| I guess everyone probably wants more information than that. I used the Sybex 5th Edition book, and briefly skimmed through the CiscoPress INTRO and ICND books. I only had 1 sim and about 2 or 3 NAT questions. There was a suprising amount about switching on the exam. There were also alot of diagram questions. Anyway, it was 53 questions and took me about 40 minutes to finish. Thanks for everyone's help on examnotes too! | |

| Killer job upenox!! Nice time to; 40 min might be a new world record.
What's next? How do you feel? How many fingers am I holding up?
EDIT: Too lazy to look it up and I keep seeing everywhere; what the heck is wOOt?

| Hah! Thanks
Well, I fell a lot better now than I did at 12.30 today :P. I'm not sure what I'm going to do next; I was thinking about going ahead and getting Network+ and A+ since they're the..."easier" certifications, but I may go ahead and start looking into CCNP stuff. I was also thinking about some MS certs, but I don't know. Like I said, I haven't really decided for sure yet (any advice is welcomed). Oh, and here's an explanation of w00t - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W00t

Have you been working on routers before, or have any other certifications?
I find it really hard to believe that you passed with such high scores in such a short time, using one book, and skimmy through the recommended books.
Not saying it's impossible. Just really hard to believe.
But congrats to you nevertheless. I'm still trying.

| Well the first time I touched a Cisco router was about 10 months ago. I actually work around them all day. I don't get to do too much 'extensive' playing with them because they are real-time in-service routers. I think what helped me the most was setting up my router/switches real-time at home behind my cable internet.
Thanks! | |

| Thanks for the help on wOOt. It's dificult enough keeping up with Cisco....
If you're looking for a breather after the CCNA, the 70-270 (XP client) is a great way to get your MCP. I enjoyed that test and would definitely rate it on the easy side. Network+ is really an inferior version of the CCNA, but if you're looking for a CompTIA, the "everybody has it" A+ never hurts. Server+ and Security+ are definitely more valuable, but also the 2 most difficult CompTIA's (opinion).
If you decide to push on with the CCNP track, you'll be happy to know that those tests have lower required pass marks (avg of 750 compared to 849 on the CCNA). Not that you need worry about it, but it's nice to know there's a "screw-up" buffer there. Decent amount of overlap as well in terms of routing, switching, and WAN technology from the CCNA. I'm taking CIT (last part of CCNP) tomorrow. Overall I've found the CCNP track easier than I expected, although a current blessing of free time played a big role there.
And then there's always that taking a break option.......nah who needs breaks right? |
