Hey Dragon,

So you're an "old timer" registered in 2000 eh? Very impressive.

I'm doing the CCNP switching test next week. Did routing a few weeks back which wasn't too terribly bad. I'd almost say go that route and keep building on your CCNP which also renews the CCNA automatically. Wild thing about the 4 CCNP tests is that they have lower required pass marks than the CCNA. CCNP BSCI (routing) for example is 776 out of a 300-1000 scale, and CCNA is 849 on the same scale. I've always found it interesting that they set lower standards for the professional level tests.

If you decide to skip the CCNP stuff, I believe you can just take the ICND portion of the CCNA exam for renewal purposes. That's assuming you're still within 3 years of when you took the CCNP switching test, since that would be the 3yr point they look at for your CCNA expiring. They didn't offer the 2 test option back in 2001, so that's one change. 1 to 2 sims is another new item. NAT is one very recent topic that wasn't on the old test, and IP SUBNET-ZERO is also assumed now for all subnetting questions. Was your CCNA the 640-507 or 640-607? Not sure if I'm remembering those numbers correctly....

What kind of routers do you have for your live lab? I've always used Boson's Netsim which has been great, but would love to step up to the real thing with some 25xx's or even 26xx's. Donations welcome!

I'm right there with you. I'm sure we will be able to get thru it again. Now it's time to remeber how Cisco wants me to answer these questions we don't alway agree, she's a fickle lady.
