| So I think I'm about ready to take my CCNA, but I just wanted to take some practice exams. I've pretty much gone through the free ones, but I am curious as to any good ones that I can pay ( < $50) for. Thanks!

| Oh, also, I'm really looking for practice exams that preferably have sims in them too. | |

| Hey upenox,
Transcender has always been king of the practice test market. They're known for creating test questions that are in-line with the difficulty level of the real thing. Lately they seem to have drifted away from stictly making tests though and are focusing on training; not sure if you can even buy just a test anymore.
Hopefully others will chime in with their experience. I've also found the CD included with Sybex books to be helpful. The CD included with the Cisco Press books is decent, but they ask questions that are too detailed compared to the real test.

| Thanks for the info. I think they've bumped their head though; wanting $229 for it. They're crazy. | |

| $139 is the price, which I know was out of your ballbark.
I usually buy it combined with a voucher which ends up being $94 + $125 for the voucher = $219. www.get certify 4 less.com/
cisco-trans-vue.asp (take the spaces out) offers those.
I have also used the measureup tests that come with ExamCram books. The books are great as a 2nd read, but the measureup tests aren't anything that I would pay for.
There's a whole slew of other small shops making these things. Sorry I haven't had any other experience outside of this!

| johnaspen: what do you think about the certsim exams? | |
| johnaspen 2005-10-18, 8:55 pm |
| Todd Lammle is the man. He's the author of the Sybex CCNA book and several others. His RouterSim product is solid, and from what I've heard, CertSim is very useful. I'll drop a line over to the gentleman from the UK that just passed recently (he has a post here). I know that he specifically used it and can give you some 1st person feedback.... | |

| Hi there, i am the gentleman from the UK tha JAspen was referring too. Certsim that comes with the sybex book, has all three exam question types for the CCNA exam. Multi choice, drag and drop and the simulators. You only get the demo version with the sybex book and have to get the full version from the certsim website. It's a very useful tool, if i handn't of bought it i probably wouldn't have past as the practice simulator was on the same subject as the simulator that i got in my exam. Also, in the exam try to be as quick and accurate as you can. You will be given a piece of paper or a laminated board to write on, i would definately write down your 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 times tables up to about 300 in order to speed your subnetting calcualtions up. Also, write down the bit values for the eight bits in each octet. ALso, in the sybex book at the end it has a list of all the commands, make sure you know what each ones does off by heart and watch out for the trick questions! Good Luck! | |

| Whats the point in cheating? You don't even need to cheat on the CCNA as it aint that hard, plus it's more of a challenge if you don't cheat and more rewarding knowing that you did it yourself without cheating! I know 85% seems like a high pass mark, i thought it was a couple of weeks ago before i passed my CCNA, but it's not. If you did any of the comptia exams you might have studied really hard and only achieved about 65-80%, however there is a good chance that you didn't understand 20-30% of the questions. On the CCNA i understood 99% of the questions which makes it much more achievable. | |

| Great, thanks for the info. I already have the Sybex 5th edition book, so through certsim.com I only had to pay $39 to 'upgrade' instead of having to pay the full $79. And yeah, as far as cheating; I can understand cheating in high school when you have to be there and you're just trying to get a good grade. But with the CCNA, I would much rather actually KNOW the material, seeing as how I'm doing this for myself and not for a grade. Thanks again for the info about Certsim though!

| Ok, one more question . How close are the certsim exams to the real thing? I've been taking the certsim exams the last couple nights and have passed every time; once with a perfect score. I'm just wondering if this is what I should expect on the real exam.
Thanks!

| Certsim's is a good tool. I have the Sybex 5th edition too. I recommend getting another source though. Sybex is weak in some area's like NAT and you will most likely see few questions on NAT and a possible Simulation question. | |
