Yes, it is possible, but it is a pain in the a$$ and takes quite awhile. Here is a link with the instructions:

Hey i'm new to all this but I thought this was the suggested way of loading an IOS just in case something went wrong you were at the consol to rectify.

It depends on if your paid by the hour or not

Even if you were on site uploading the IOS via the console would be worst case scenario, the preferred route would be via a flash card/USB if your router supports it, TFTP or finally if the box is completely knackered you can upload via the console cable using xmodem - though this is very slow.

The console is typically only 9k6, I'd suggest changing to 115k and downloading the smallest IOS you can find, for instance an early IP only, then reverting to the first two methods for the actual file.

I can't even remember what I used!

You would probably be better off firing that question to IP Expert, NMC etc.

Good luck....

Here is a link telling you how to upgrade the IOS from a ftp or tftp server:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td...images.htm#5376

Just use IIS in W2K/2003 or XP.

Best IOS for CCNA and CCNP study is:

12.2.28 .27 for the 1700 series.

Do NOT use cisco's suggestion of 12.3 - it is buggy. It took us two weeks of testing IOSs to figure this out. Cisco help desk had no clue.

Good luck
