Router and Switch specific questions

| Hi everyone
I am training for the ccna at the moment and have downloaded sample questions from the boson website I also have the cisco press book.
From the Boson material there seem to be quite a few questions on specific router and switches i.e. "the catalyst 2820 switch supports ???? modular slots", in the cisco press books there was no mention of various types of switches and routers just one router(2500) and one switch (2950). There was also questions regarding the type of routers to use in the home, office, mobile etc.
Has anyone had these type of questions and is it neccessary to know the differences between the different types of cisco equipment.
Thanks

| It is always good to have an understanding of the different types and models of equipment that you might be working with in the field. For the exam, you don't need to know a bunch of model-specific information. | |

| smrkdown is correct...you need to know the variety of switches atleast their names and no model specific information is required at here.
Coming to your question why no mention about the 2820 switches in Cisco press materials, the answer is they are outdated and no more in production/sales. Cisco tend to follow a rule like on the outdated models/protocols/functions/features/technologies...it make sure they are all removed from their exam syllabus if not in the next exam syllabus updates....quiet a good example supporting this argument is that I found that there were no question asked on the IPX and Token Ring in the CCNA anymore. including the CCNP, CCIE written exams too!
Hope this would help you a bit! |
