| got an 875. 849 is passing
(insert golf clap)
The test was a bear, I think what saved me was my ability to weed out bad answer choices.
I did the local community college's Cisco Network Academy CCNA classes (3 semesters) and used the Sybex 4th edition e-book and cert simulator. I spent the last 6 weeks preparing and the last 2 weeks dedicating myself to the task
although the Cert simulator is good, and it definitely helped me pass, it didn't directly prepare me for 50% of the questions I was asked.

| congratz, way to go..
looks like you are the proof that hard study does allow someone to pass the test on the first time contrary to some resent posts.

| Hi
Congratulation!
I am preparing to take ccna 640-801 on July 1st,can you tell me what do I need to concentrate on. You said " you used Sybex 4th edition e-book and cert simulator" Is this book really help you to pass the exam? Please let me know if this book better than those two cisco book ccna intro & ccna icnd. I will be waiting for your answer. Thanks

| ddaryl 2004-06-11, 10:27 pm |
| Yeah joseph
I recommend it, but i've heard good things about cisco book ccna intro & ccna icnd, even though I didn't use it.
What I liked about the cert simulator (it's a demo, so you need to upgrade it to the full version for another $39) is that at the end of every test I took it allowed me to look at the answers I got wrong, and then look at a description about the topic. It also broke up the exam into portion which directly coorelated to chapters in the Sybex ebook.
After 4 or so practice tests I could clearly see where I was struggling and what chapters I needed to study more of. Furthermeore, at the end of each chapter there were practice questions, and labs.
The Sybex ebook also included some "Flash Cards". I didn't really use the flash cards much.
It was alot of work, you cannot BS your way through this exam so keep hammering away at the studying, but it sure does help to have a testing simulator to guage and help mentally prepare you for what you are going to encounter.

That being stated, this is but a couple of paragraphs from the Confidentiality Agreement (CA) you agreed to prior to your test and just violated. Look closely at the underlined paragraphs which basically say that Cisco can revoke your CCNA if you violate the agreement. Violating your CA isn't a good thing to do, especially in a public forum.
3 CONFIDENTIALITY AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OWNERSHIP
3.1 Confidentiality. You agree that the contents of the exam are confidential and that the
disclosure of that information could compromise the integrity of the Program and of
Certifications. Cisco makes exams available to you solely to test your knowledge of the
exam subject matter for which you seek Certification. You are expressly prohibited from
disclosing, publishing, reproducing, or transmitting any exam and any related information
including, without limitation, questions, answers, worksheets, computations, drawings,
diagrams, length or number of exam segments or questions, or any communication,
including oral communication regarding or related to the exam (known collectively as
“Proprietary Information”), in whole or in part, in any form or by any means, oral or
written, electronic or mechanical, for any purpose, without the prior express written
permission of Cisco.
3.2 Intellectual Property Ownership. Cisco retains all rights, title and interest in and to all
Program and related information, content, data, exams, materials, and all copyrights, patent
rights, trademark rights and other proprietary rights therein. All rights not expressly
granted by Cisco to you are expressly reserved to Cisco.
4 TERM AND TERMINATION
4.1 Term. The term of this Agreement is perpetual.
4.2 Termination for Convenience. Either you or Cisco may terminate this Agreement at any
time, with or without cause, upon thirty (30) days written notice to the other.
4.3 Termination By Cisco. Cisco may, in its sole discretion, terminate this Agreement at any
time if you breach any of the material terms of this Agreement, or if you violate or fail to
meet any Program requirements. ;
4.4 Notice. Cisco will provide you written notice of termination at your last known address.
Termination shall be effective as of the date set forth in the notice. Cisco, without waiving
its right to immediately terminate this Agreement, may provide you with thirty (30) days to
correct any default. If Cisco permits such a cure period, your failure to cure any default
within the cure period shall automatically cause the termination of this Agreement without
further notice.
4.5 Effect of Termination. Upon the termination of this Agreement, you shall immediately
cease to represent yourself as Cisco Certified.

| Interesting,
I was more under the impression that I just couldn't post exact questions and answers.
I've also depended on many suggestions from others to help me focus some of my studies.
So I have ot assume Tom Lammelle has had his CCNA, CCNP etc... revoked, since his it is known that he takes these test dozens of times and writes books about them ?
thanks for the reminder, I'm going to delete my info since I am now paranoid and I don't want to screw with something I worked so hard to get.
Its just my nature to wanna help others.

I understand and admire that; however, many of the folks who visit this forum are nothing but leeches and free-loaders looking to pass the exam in the easiest possible manner. Many don't even want to help themselves by studying, doing research, and more studying. They want everyone else to provide the answers for them.
I'm just saying be wary of individuals you help, for those who won't even help themselves are not deserving.

You mean Todd didn't specify exactly what sims were on the exam? Grrrrrrr...and he was doing so well.
LOL

| smrkdown 2004-06-12, 1:56 pm |
| I will say that some of the questions from CertSim by Lammle were nearly identical to some exam questions. I'm not sure what the deal with that is. | |
| ddaryl 2004-06-13, 1:21 pm |
| With Sybex book, Todd continually points out things he is not going to go into detail with becuase the book is geared towards what you will need ot pass the CCNA. Although this is a roud about way, it still suggests that he is providng what is on the exam by eliminating topic details that are not covered n the exam. Its a grey area, and I doubt Todd would lose business if he had his CCNA revoked.
I did have 2 or 3 questions on the certsim that were exact duplicates to what was in the CCNA exam.
The simulations in the certsim are good for getting you comfortable with the format you can expect on the CCNA. they helped.
| Tophat 2004-06-13, 2:07 pm |
| I know that forbesl had posted the whole CA, but it does have a loophole which I am sure someone like todd would have received from cisco. You never know, but one can only assume.

Actually, it has more to do with the nature of the post than the person who submitted it.
For instance, if you look at my congratulatory response, you will see "!!..."
The first two "replies" were for a good job. The last three "timeouts" were because of the CA violation.

I had the ebook, which offered the certsim DEMO. You had to purchase the upgrade for the full version.
I would suspect that if you ordered the book it will come with a CD in the back and have the certsim. You just have to go though the upgrade process.

I am planning to take the exam on July 6th, I bought the Sybex book and the $39.00 certsim upgrade. I am studying very hard, understand the protocols, & practice those exams on the certsim. I would like to know from your point of view, those questions on Sybex book and certsim exams how close are they to CCNA 640-801 exam? Please let me know what I should expect when I am taking the exam on July 6th.
