IMO, you should start off with CCNA. It's a hell of a lot easier to design a network when you know how it works.

You really have no need to take the CCDA unless you are interested in design over network support.

Be warned, the design exams are not as straight forward as the support exams.

CCDA is not a pre-requisite for the CCNP but the CCNA is.

It depends on which area interests you more, having said that, there is no reason why you can not pursue both tracks.

There really is no reason to post this thread in two forums either.

I actually went the ccda route before getting (hopefully) my ccna soon. This is because I have an older ccna and I have been doing the design part lately. I would not recommend this unless you have experience in cisco, cisco design and networking in general.

A lot of questions that are ccna prerequisite in the material which you will need to know for the ccda. Also, the questions are not easy, and you always need to look at how cisco would solve the problem. But if you are not a very technical person, then it might appeal to you since there is less memorization (administrative distance of igrp for example) and more general knowledge of how to put things together or what would fit best to make it work.

There are some free study tests questions available on the net. Best thing to do is sign up to both and see which questions you are more comfortable in answering.
