If there are 4 routers connected to each other through serial ports and is using multiple routing protocols, which path is the router going to take to reach other routers??

A The answer depends on the AD, right???

If the routers are strung together in a line like []--[]--[]--[] <<-- (crude drawing)
then there is only one path regardless of the routing protocol, so every packet will follow the same path. The only thing that is different is how that path is being maintained and described.

what if they are connected in a circle??

longest match always ..... if you've built a big loop depends who originated the route remember the rule of split horizion ...

Wants to reach router {}

What if one of the link is OSPF and other is RIP??

It will use AD to determine which route to take?

i think you were making it much more complicated then it had to be

I think what you have is two questions in one. The first question you need to answer is which of the routing protocols the router will use. This is based on the AD. The other question you are asking is how that routing protocol then chooses the path that the router should take. This then depends on the routing protocol, the logical design of the network, and the (in some cases) the speed of the links.

I concur, good link.

i am sorry, but this does not tell me anything. I know ascii drawing are hard, but I need some verbage to go along with this one to make any sense.

OPSP.......IGRP

.....(packet needs to get here). .......

All the links are connected in a circle, which path is it going to take. I think IGRP because its AD is 100

OSPF AD is 110.

Ya I noticed that, I am EXTREMELY ENVIOUS of everyone (you soon :P )who also passed the lab and wish that I am close to achieveming that feat. However, I have decided to move toward the non technical side of things and my current target is a top 20 b-school, not ccie so GMAT is my game, not routing 101....

Ideally, I would wish to have ccie under the belt before I begin my MBA but that's increasingly unlikely as I see my technical knowledge decline with the passing of each and every day.
