Author Question about CCNA

I took the CCNA Basic exam last week and failed it with 777 points. I needed 825 point to pass the exam. Did I come close to passing it or not?

Should I go back and do certification in A+ then Network + and then CCNA?

Or should I go Network + and then CCNA?

Will they help me find a job in Networking? Or atleast make me a better candidate?

I have extensive knowledge in hardware/software. I just dont have in depth knowledge of networking.

Thanks for any suggestions,
FMZ

I think its a good idea to get your Comptia stuff first ... 775 is not terrible.

Well I whipped out my calculator and found that 825 - 777 is 48. So yeah you were pretty damn close my friend.

So do you think I should concentrate on it and try passing it? Or should I go with Network + first?

Thanks,

Both certs will not get you in the door at any reputable IT department. They are essentially worthless in today's market. I work for a HUGE company and see resumes on my boss' desk with CCNP all the way up to CCIE. It means nothing. So why get them? I don't know.

LOL

Its not what you know - its what can you do?

I know a guy that runs the largest data center in ****** for one of the largest ISPs, could run circles around any CCIE brought before him. Is he certified? No. Does he have a network+? CCNA? No.

The greatest IT guys are uncertified genius motherfuchers who make stuff work with no one else's help.

Actually the greatest guys are both certified and experienced. Shows they put forth the effort on the job and on their credentials. If someone works with Cisco gear and doesn't have Cisco certs it tells me they are lazy. Cisco certs also tremendously benefit some companies and it helps get that company Premier/Silver/Gold certified.

Certs mean nothing ... in the real world.

I totally disagree. Working for one of the TOP 5 Telecom/ISPs in the world, cisco certs do mean something. We have an agreement with cisco and the more certifications we have the better partnership we have with cisco. It definitely helps out both companies and in turn our company does hire people with certs moreso than someone without. Maybe in your HUGE company they don't matter, but I know my company isn't the only one to do this, so in my honest opinion your reasoning and statements are false. Just my 2 cents.

I believe having the cert does get your foot in the door. What you do on the other side has nothing to do with the cert, its your job performace.

Why in the world would you ask in an engineering interview, how many devices a SCSI bus can contain. I am a network engineer and I don't have a clue. I think 7, but who the hell cares. I don't work on servers or computers. Don't need to know.

Cert's do matter. I never would have gotten my first networking job without them. Hell, my CCIE gets me an interview for every position I turn my resume in for. Granted they can get you the job, but you need to have the knowledge and skills to keep it.

Joe your just bitter because you can't even pass the CCNA. I remember your previous posts. Don't bring everyone else down.
