Need clear definition

| Hi all,
I am having difficulty with what I believe is a very remedail CCNA concept. I am having trouble distinguishing the difference between "collision domain" and "broadcast domain". Does anyone know of a very clear way to explain this? Or maybe a link? I am taking practice tests and one of the questions show pictures of variously configured LAN's using switches, hubs and routers; I am supposed to list the number of broadcast and collision domains of each one.
I am hoping one of you can shed some light on this?
Thx in advance!! | |

| See www.celticrover.com for excellent references.
Also, see the graphic in the Lammle book.
A router creates broadcast domains, a switchs' individual ports create seperate collision domains. Each port is isolated from the other ports. Think of a car pool lane that is dedicated to you and only you on a freeway. While the suckers in the regular lanes are moaning on their way home because of all the traffic you are cruising along in your own lane, your own collision domain. |
