| Ive got 2 of these used 2524's now, but cannot seem to even access the command prompt on them. I was think I just want to start fresh, and erase the NVRAM config, or such manually, and be able to access the router like it was brand new. How can I manually reset the router back to everything default? | |

| But I do not have access to even command line!
I am looking for some way to do a manual reset on the physical router, so I can just connect with a crossover cable to the ethernet port (I dont have a rj-45 to com port converter here right now). I dont think this should make a difference, as I should be able to just do a manual reset of the entire router by opening up the case and doing something, then pinging / connecting to the default 10.0.0.1 and going from there. Or am I out to lunch?

| do a search on cisco for password recovery and find your router series (2500). That will tell you how to break into a router.

| Have you tried a console cable into the console port?
How exactly are you connecting to the routers?

| First off you will need a console cable to reset the password. You can't reset the password using telnet.
Follow the instructions Here and you should be able to erase the config and start from scratch.
Good Luck. | |

| Whatever happened here? My guess is he had insufficient ram to run whatever IOS was in flash, but maybe we will never know....

| It sounds like he is trying to connect to an ethernet cable which will not work unless his ethernet port was previously configured. You need a console cable to access the router.
Console cable goes in the console port
You must do this first and you must give your fa0/0 or your first fast ethernet port an ip address and a no shutdown to bring it up. then you can give your machine an ip on the same subnet and telnet to it.
example:
enable
config t
int fa0/0
ip address 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0
no shut
Ctrl-z
copy run start or write config
