| Hello,
I have the Sybex CCNA 4th edition study guide and Platinum edition Virtual Lab. I’ve read the Sybex book from front to back and went through each lab in the Virtual lab. I still do not fell comfortable about taking the exam. I know there are chapters I need to re-read in the book but does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks | |

| my prefer method is instead of reading the same book twice, I read something else.
you can't have enuff books or read enough documents/whitepapers
I suggest that you either get odom's book, or try to really isolate the topics you are not comfortable with and then go to cisco.com etc and read and be sure that you learn above and beyond the scope/depth needed for ccna, which would make ccna exam a walk in the park for you.
the new ccna deal with a bit more advance topic, you can also grab the old ccnp books for the 640 exams, you should able to get them on amazon's zshop super cheap. These books cover vlan, trunking, routing etc etc which should serve you well for ccna and beyond.

| Myself..I have a big book called "Cisco: The Complete Reference". I got it ridiculously cheap at amazon used (but in new shape) for something like 7 bucks. Besides that I have the Sybex 4th edition and the book my class is using, the Course Technology CCNA Guide to Cisco Networks. | |

| I do agree with reading a different book to get a freash look at the same subject but do you feel all the books you have aren't over kill? | |

Me? No. I know that you can't trust one book with all the errors your likely to find.

| After failing again, i can honestly say, no book will help. I have them all, i have the 'test guides', Boson, Lammle.
The only thing that will help is experience.
The new questions I just had were so god damn hard and obtuse I could care less about getting the friggen CCNA.
Cisco can kiss my a$$. | |

This is not what I wanted to read. Is it really THAT hard??

| With good prep you can pass. Joe might have been weak in a key area and been unaware of it.
Joe: Without breaking NDA, what subjects did you find "obtuse"?

| I've read posts regarding the 640-801 on the board on Cisco's website and people have posted passing with just the Sybex Study Guide and a little lab or sim experience. | |

| You want to give internet access to all your users. What would you type to allow this:
Choose 2
(what I chose) a. ip route 0.0.0.0 171.78.3.3.
b. Configure RIP on xxx
c. Configure RIP timer
d. ip route default-network 171.78.3.3
e. ip route default 171.78.3.3
f. Get RIP going correctly

| Yer right guys ... Its not a hard test at all. Simply read Lammle and do a few labs, you'll be ok ...

| wow, the sarcasm came rolling out. I don't believe any test is hard if you know the subject (which I do not feel I know it well enough to pass the exam yet) but sometimes questions can be worked to set you up to fail.
I don't know if this is the case of the CCNA but MCSE exams did it all the time.
Would be really nice to have one book, one practice exam questions that everyone could agree on and say "that is the book, that is the test exam questions you have to study to pass"

| Eh I took weeks, and got an 8*9, then I studied hard for 2 more weeks and got a 7*0.
I dunno man, its a tuff one ... I will pass the two one day soon. I can't imagine what CCNP or CCIE is like ... I may just try compcerts.com ... lol.

| For your answer regarding default routing, wouldn't 171.18.1.1 be an awkward subnet mask for 0.0.0.0 and isn't it missing the next hop router? j/k | |

| what is compcerts.com? Just a site that gives out certs? hahahah no thanks! | |

| I've just finished updating my CCNA by writing the combined exam and found it to be hard but fair. CCNA is not to be taken lightly with hard work, lots of studying and use of labs or real equipment you should do find. | |

| A co-worker took the CCNA exam not too long ago but took the 607-640 exam. The co-worker was looking at the objects that are on the new 801 exam and was really supprised. It does seem they have made it harder.
I feel very good with the study material I have now.

| ccna isnt the easiest test in the world, but it can be passed. i actually thought i failed it, mainly because i knew if i failed that wad $125 down the drain. i passed my first time with a 849. use the cisco press book, as it's a lot better than the sybex book. i used the cisco press, sybex, and a cisco reference manual. do a couple labs, search the new for some free practice questions, and make sure u know ur stuff and ull be ok. i decided not to go any further with cisco certs til i get some experience. it would look kinda wierd to have a ccnp and still be working at target. | |

| To me throwing away $125 would be the worst part about failing. | |

| aint that the truth, the whole time i was taking the test the only thing i could think of was "damn i could buy school books with this money!!" | |
| popdevil 2004-03-08, 9:35 am |
| Throwing away $125 could be the worse thing BUT beliving you know the material and then not passing could be the worse thing for me. ...now you have to re-study and try and think back on the questions in which you believe you got wrong. |
