Hi,

I found a company that is selling used CCNA lab kits and I'm thinking about purchasing one. Can someone tell me whether the kits include everything I need to study CCNA. Here are the two kits:

CCNA Kit #1
2 Cisco 2501 Routers 16D/16F
1 Back to Back Cable
2 Console Kits
2 Ethernet Transceivers

CCNA Kit #2
2 Cisco 2501 Routers 16D/16F
2 Cisco 2503 Routers 16D/16F
1 Cisco 1924C-EN Switch
5 Console Kits
4 Back to Back Cables
4 Ethernet Transceivers

I'm thinking about buying Kit#2. Any suggestions?

Add a $75.00 1900 to kit one and you are golden ... even the Boson LE that comes with the Odom book is enough ... you need to be able to do the following from memory to pass the test:

1. Configure RIP across 3 routers
2. Configure OSPF one area
3. Configure IGRP, EIGRP across 3 routers
4. Configure VLAN on a 1900, 2950 switch

If I get Kit 2, that already includes the needed 1900 series switch right? Or is that switch not sufficient for the labs?

Yeah but I don't think you need 4 for CCNA ... Its nice, but not required. If you have the $ get #2. I just figured cost might be a factor in your decision.

Well I would go with kit#2 but it really depends on the cost. What are they charging you for the kits?

Hey, I got the same kit as #2 but I only paid $250 on ebay. I have seen the site that you are probably talking about and I know they wanted $895. I would go with the #2 (I did).

Hey Christian7,

I'm referring to www.knowledgecomputers.net. How is it doing business with them via eBay? Did the parts arrive promptly and in good order? Is there anything I should know before buying from these guys?

Hey aznluvsmc,

What ever you do DO NOT buy any kits from this place. The company may be a good one but those prices are UNREALISTIC. You need to look on ebay and see what you could get for the same amount of money. For $1400 you start a hell of a lab.

For example there is a guy on ebay that will send you a 2520, 2514, 2503, and 2 1912s. Price is about $900, all maxed out with RAM & IOS, all cables, all transcievers, mounting brackets, and shipping included.

You need to look around some more before you get ripped off. Also remember all the 2500 series routers and 1900 series switches have been discontinued so why is this place trying to charge so much.

Hi,

I found a kit auctioned by the same company for $495 US. It includes 2 2500 routers and a 1900 switch with all cables.

Is this a good deal?

Mitch1301 is right don't buy from that company, like I said mine were from ebay and I only paid $250 for two 2524's with 2 serial interfaces each and 1 ethernet interface plus 1 BRI1 and also the 1900 switch. If I were you I would look on ebay before spending that much on those routers, but if money is no object it is up to you what you get; good luck.

That is a good deal, I received mine within 3 days and they were in new condition and with all the cables required.

I bought a 1912 from them and it was packaged perfectly, nice guys. I would recomend them for buying stuff. My 1912 was in pristine condition. You may save by buying them seperately, but, if you are a total newbie a kit with some guidance and instructions may be a good thing.

Boson is a great way to go too, if you want a nice simulator and have some experience behind you to design your own networks and keep them saved, very very handy product for $250.

Well you shouldn't pay more than $100 for a loaded 2501, $100 for the 1924 (12 port should run ya around $75). So it really depends on what models you are getting in the 2500 series. You don't want any routers with token ring, completely worthless for the test these days, IMO. As for the cables you can get new serial cables for $6-$7 bucks each. You will only need a couple with two routers. Several of the auctions on ebay will include a cable or two with the router.

Take a look at this thread I started, it shows some prices that I got stuff for on ebay:
