Configuring 2 Cisco 2524 Routers

| Hi, I don't know if this is the right forum for this question, here it goes.
Recently I bought two Cisco 2524 routers and an HP advancestack switch with 24 ports, both routers have 2 serial interfaces and 1 ethernet interface, for my CCNA exam I decided to conect my home network to these routers and switch; right now I connected 2 serial interfaces together with a DTE/DCE cable and I have one Netgear switch on one router and the HP switch on the other router, on the Netgear switch I have a server running Win 2003 Server and also have a laptop on the switch. On the HP switch I have one XP machine, one print server and a wireless router (acting like a hub), at the wireless router I have a wireless access point that is pointing at my neighbor's house to get cable Internet from his house. Well the whole network communicates fine eccept the Internet, I can ping all the equipment eccept the Internet but if I change the gateway to the XP machine from 197.19.74.120 to 197.19.74.1 which is the Internet's gateway it works fine but this way I cannot communicate with anything over the routers. I have 2 more serial interfaces available with a cable, is there a way (I know there is) to have the Internet and routers and computer to communicate without changing the gateway? The server and the laptop on the other router won't get Internet even if I change the gateway, I can't even ping it. Please if someone knows the answer to this question let me know because I have been searching evrywhere for the answer for weeks, thank you in advance and sorry for the bad spelling.

Do your neighbor and his cable provider know about this arrangement?!

| Nice post dmaftei. You must be a diplomat as my origanl post was not going to be near as nice, so I deleted mine before posting

| You need to implement NAT to transilate between your local network and the internet. | |

| Thanks guys for the info, dmaftei Yes my neighbor is the cable provider's manager (any more questions on that?). Any way guys thank you for your fast response and I will try it with NAT. Have a great day. | |

Does the cable company know that their management is stealing from them? Maybe their tech support can help you out; seeing that he is management and all.

| You can always count on dumfart to come up with a great suggestion!
I won't help on this problem, other than to say you haven't gotten good technical advice yet.

| dumfart, I don't think you can really read. I am sking for Cisco Router Help not cable servive help so the tech support won't do me no good even if it did, I have called them before (trust me, they all know who I am), so make sure you know what you are talking about before you make comments like this, this type of comments makes you very unpopular in these kind of forums. Thank you all for your comments and I think the only useful advice is from jane55 and I really appreciate that very much, thank you jane55. | |

How do they all know you; are you are under investigation for theft of service? Sorry, I am just "sking" about your theft of "servive" because I can't "really read" and I want to make sure that I have all the facts so I can point you in the right direction. Good luck with your NAT!

| OK, you win Dumfart. I guess you have nothing better to do than pick on users, but that is OK I take the hint and I am sorry I have ever posted this question, I will go somewhere else, in fact the CCIE's are being more professional than you are. Have a great day and I hope I don't bump into you some other time because I won't let you win that time. Good luck with what ever you do in whatever life you have. | |

| Nobody has replied to you in the CCIE Forum nor do I imagine they will. Here's your problems.
1. What you wrote sounds like stealing
2. What you wrote was long winded and does not contain enough info to solve your problem.
3. Nobody should advise you to NAT without more info on your problem because you already seem to be using public addresses.
4. Flame wars with senior, experienced techs who actually could solve your problem do you no good.

| My only question would be if the ISP knows you so well then why wouldn't they just run a drop right to your house for you instead of making you share with your neighbor? | |

| Yankee, that is my point the CCIE's have not answer my question because maybe I don't have enough info or maybe the don't know the answer, but people like you guys should not answer a question if you do not know the answer, they are a perfect example. Also my intentions are not to steal, my neighbor has a home network and I have a home network and this is a perfect time to learn about networks, he has Internet and I also have Earthlink broadband but I just had a question why I cannot access his Internet but I can access everything else from his network.
darthfeces, I am just wondering with all those certifications that you hold you should know the answer, or maybe you lied about them or maybe you have them but you got them through braindumps (memorization)? just wondering because with those certs under my belt I would be helping people not putting them down, think about it...
smrkdown, just like I said I do have my own Internet and you can check with Earthlink if you want to, I just had a simple question about maybe simmulating two locations with routers and accessing everything. But anyway I will not post anymore questions on this site, I will go with people that want to help people (unlike you guys) you know what? you can all go suck an egg, and good luck.

| Darth and I have together have over 3000 posts on this site (my counter was reset when I resigned as Moderator of this forum a couple of years ago.) I guarantee you the majority of those posts were helping people.
Several people that frequent these forums could have solved your problem, but there have been a couple of threads over the years explaining why the more experienced techs don't/won't offer assistance on some posts.
Feel free to visit other sites. I have been to many over the years, but stay here because on the whole there are some pretty sharp techs browsing the posts that like answering good questions.
I'm not real fond of eggs, so you can keep it.

Hey, buddy, last time I checked Yankee was a CCIE, and I believe darthfeces is almost there too...
This is not about CCIEs not answering and low-lives like ourselves jumping on you; it's about what and how you're saying. About the only thing that is clear from your original post is that you're stealing service from your neighbor's IPS. Now, maybe that's not true, in which case you should simply post an explanation such as "sorry, guys, my fist post wasn't clear, it only looks like I'm stealing, but the truth is such and such..." Instead, you start bashing around. This is what I call an attitude problem, and in my dictionary this attitude is called "stupid arrogance". That is why you're getting what you're getting.
A bon entendeur, salut! |
