Hello to you all, Im new here. Had a look round and it looks like a pretty handy place.

I have a question about ethernet frames, not really crucially important but its bugging me!!

802.3 frames can only be ipx as they do not have a protocol field right?

802.2 frames are basically 802.3 frames with the llc added.

That being the case why isnt the 802.2 called the 802.4 as it obviously was formulated after 802.3? - there I told you it was a fairly irrelevant question! I just want to make sure my study guide hasnt got them round the wrong way by mistake!!

Because the x in 802.x has nothing to do with when 802.x was created; it refers to a group in the IEEE 802 Standards Comittee.
