| Hi! I bought the Cisco Press 2 book set for the CCNA. I want to take the one test instead of the 2 tests. Does anyone have any advice on preparing for this? Right now, I'm reading the Intro book and then I'll read the ICND book (trying to get an overview or a "big picture" before I start to study). My problem is that this seems like a ton of info to learn and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. I'd appreciate any tips for preparing for this test. Thanks in advance! | |

| I am also in the same boat. I have the 2book set, but it seems there is just too much into in there to remember it all. | |

| there's not so much stuff at it seems to be. The 2 Chapters in both books -- TCP/IP IP Addressing & Subnetting -- are nearly the same. The chapters about VTP & VLAN is in the ICND book much deeper, so you can read the chapter in the intro book faster. The routing protocols in the intro is just an overlook and it is also much deeper in the ICND stuff. The most important thing in the intro is OSI and the basic operations of router and switches. Don't forget some WAN technologies like DSL or Cable Modems in the intro.
This statement is limitied due to your knowledge. If you already know TCP, UDP, LAN Cabling standards, you can get through the intro fast ( like Net+).
But if not: you have to learn both. Don't forget to practice with a router or switch. The Labs in the exam are very important.
I hope this helps. | |

| when i started my ccna studying i was feeling the same way, there is a lot to learn and memorize. to me it was the equivalent of learning another language, i had to start with the basics, review, then move on to more advanced stuff. just keep reading, keep asking questions, and keep learning. it got discouraging for me because when i was done reading the book for the 1st time, i literally forgot about 90% of what i read. so i just read it again, and again, and again. i had no networking exp or knowledge when i started, and i passed it yesterday. if u have networking knowledge/exp then u were in better shape than me. if u dont, dont get discouraged, you can still pass. remember, hard work never killed anyone.
hope this helps | |
