| I'm in my last week of the Cisco netacad program and I am preparing to take 607 soon. I was just curious if I should go out and get more study material along with the Cisco material. Do you think I could pass the 607 with just the info from the netacad program? | |

| You should be able to pass with just the Cisco Network Academy material, but it never hurts to get extra study material and see things from another perspective. I used only Wendell Odom's CCNA Certification Guide and passed after 2 weeks of study. | |

| Wow...2 weeks. Did you take any cisco classes? Anyway, thanks for the reply. | |

| No, I've never taken any Cisco classes, but I did a 1-year general networking course and I have 4 months of work experience as a Network Administrator. So certain networking topics are second nature to me. I only had to study the Cisco specific stuff, like routing, router/switch commands or WANs (ISDN, Frame Relay). | |

| Cool what's it like being a Network Admin. Is it very demanding? I recently applied for a Network Admin position that I felt I could possibly handle. The thing is the company wants some certs. (CCNA, MCP, etc.) that I don't have. However, thanks again! | |

| Network Admin can mean almost anything. It can be doing some simple network maintenance work as part of a network team at a big site, or it can be doing everything from fixing desktop PCs, Web page maintenance, database maintence and whatever else the site needs in addition to maintaining the network and servers at a smaller site.
Sounds like the most important thing you need to know at this point is what are they expecting at the job you are thinking about.
And if you can pass the CCNA, you should be able to pass a Microsoft workstation test and get the MCP (only need one test) with some study. | |

| This place I work at I do just about everything: from repairing PCs to configuring mail servers. It's a computer school so I also spend time helping/tutoring students. We also have a testing center so I sign-up folks for certification exams and let them into the testing room. | |

| Thanks guys for the insight. HOw long have you's been working in the field and what was it like when you got your first Network Admin. job? I'm almost done with school and have been looking for jobs but sometimes i get a little discouraged because I feel that I'm not ready I don't know what employers are expecting from recent grads? |
