Ok, I understand subnetting but I had a massive brain fart, what does the number after the "/" mean?

Ex.
192.168.100.1/24

Thanks!

PS, going for retake Monday the 22nd, the prometric center is booked till October, fret the 640-801! No other testing center for 110 Miles!!!!!!!!!!!

/24 means that 24 bits are used as network and subnet bits, which gives you a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. Since this is a C class network, /24 is the default C class subnet mask.

That was sort of what I was thinking, but forgot, now it makes ccna test seem not so bad, since every subnet question is "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/yyy" and I completely blew that part. LOL

Thanks!

"/24" -a Classless InterDomain(CIDR) Notation

It indicates the number of routing bits (network and subnet bits)in each subnet mask

-CIDR-compliant network address is advertised with a specific bit mask.

-This mask is identifies the length of the network prefix

-eg: 192.168.100.1/24 identifies a CIDR address with a 24 bit Network address

Hope this helps~~

Cheers~
