| Here is the scenario: RouterA has connected to it Switch-A and Switch-B which are two VLANs, and one hub (hub has 4 hosts connected). Each switch has three nodes attached. Practice question is how many collision domains are in this topology.
My answer was 7, one for the hub and one for each of the 6 hosts. But the correct answer is supposed to be 9. Does that mean the switches each count as a separate collision domain even thought I'm already counting the hosts that are attached to it? Thanks! | |

| 1 col. domain for the hub + 1 col. domain for each switch port.(3 ports for hosts + 1 port for the router x 2) = 9 | |

| Each node on the switch is 1 collision domain, so that's 3 x 2 = 6. The hub is one collision domain, so that gives us 7. Where do the 2 extra come from? Well, each port on the switch is a collision domain, so the port on each switch that connects to the router gives you the 2 others. Total: 9.  | |

| Martek...! You are right on the point!
"Yes each port on the switch is a collission domain". A 24-port switch would have 24 col. domains. |
