| I'm not quite sure what you are asking in terms of your subnetting question so could you clarify? If you're asking what subnetting is and how to do it, and you're taking the test on Monday, then I think you might want to postpone the exam first. | |

| Well i've heard from people that took the exam that there is not just subnetting like finding a valid IP ranges for the subnet and
brodcast and this kind of stuff, they said that is much hearder, so im wondering what else could be...

| Could be that you get a network layout, they give you the IP configuration of the routers and hosts (IP addresses and subnet masks) and ask you why the host can't ping another host on a remote network.
For example, the answer could be that the remote host is using an invalid IP based on his subnet mask (such as the subnet broadcast address) or he's using an IP which isn't in the IP range of his default gateway.
But that's up to you to figure out.

| First, you are expected to understand binary conversion to calculate subnetting questions. Focus on what is involved in subnetting rather 'what will be on the exam'. Know the difference between a calculated subnet/host range vs. a 'usable' subnet/host. Be ready to find the host/subnet range where a given IP, subnet falls. Be ready to find the broadcast address of a given IP address. Finally, be ready to do subnetting on the fly!! I mean very fast | |
