here is the problem:

the company has a FDDI MAN based on cisco 4000 series routers.

one of the routers lets say roter A has crashed and re- configured.

the problem is, after the configuration, router A can ping to the next router (roter B) and third router (routerC) BUT can not go further, can not ping the third router on the ring (can not ping router C)

I couldnt find any logical reason how can it happen. and dont know what to do

any help would be useful for me

thanks a lot

Hi,
FDDI is great in that it will heal itself, and the ring will loop itself back (just like token ring) - one major problem though is that people don't monitor it - if it's working don't fix it.

I've had a couple of faults where I have been called to customers and they have two faults on the fibre (or modules), if they had monitored the network they would have known about and been able to fix the first fault, then the second fault wouldn't have resulted in an outage.

It could also be your config - I can't make out if you can ping router C from your description?? Can router B ping router C etc??? If not is the interface between B & C up/up?

Pretty hard to diagnose your problem with the info given.

I trust all the interface you can't ping is up/up? Any switches or other external devices involved? I'd make sure to rule out any physical problems before suspecting a previously working config.

The "sho interface" command gives some detail on the FDDI state. You might be able to gain some ground by using that command and following cisco.com troubleshooting docs.

Since FDDI isn't covered in any detail on the CCNA, I would try this question on the CCIE or CCNP forums.

From what I am reading, did the router reconfig itself? Did you reload your prior config? Need some more information on the reconfiguration. I would check all the interfaces on all routers to make sure the config is correct and that all clients attached to thos int's are working okay. have you tried a trace to see where exactly it fails?

just some ideas, good luck, keep us up to date.
