| I have no cisco IOS or CCNA experience (yet) but I am thinking of getting the Cisco uBR924 Cable Modem Firewall Router for a few reasons:
1. Save desk space and allow me to give back my current cable modem which I'm renting and paying a fee on.
2. Want to have an IOS firewall
3. Get practice with a cisco firewall for when I do pursue the CCNA path, I'll be ahead.
I found a good deal on that Cisco uBR924. But I just got to wonder how much of a challenge this would be to set up (the IOS) for someone like me with no cisco or IOS experience. I was told of a graphical cisco router config tool, but it doesn't say it supports this model. All I want to do is set up NAT, DHCP, and a firewall for my home cable modem network. Would this be something I can read a manual and/or tutorial and acccomplish with relative ease? Also, if you have this model, share your thoughts on it. Thanks.

| maybe you need to repharse your post in the form of questions with multiple answers... that way it may garner more interest...
I had this long elaborate post prep'd last nite but wanted to give others a chance... .. you are after all only asking if ios is hard to learn... I am sure ccna candidates has a lot to say about that

my short answer is get it and learn, have to start somewhere... if others can learn it, why can't you learn it with *relative ease*?
(never use ubr924 so can't help you with that, but for 50 buckish on ebay, still a good platform to learn... so why not even if somehow does not work with your setup or you totally botch it?)

| I would add that you should never learn from a GUI regardless of the platform. Learn from the command line so you better understand the commands.

| hehe I am guilty of telling him to use configmaker...
B: Anyone use a CISCO router with IOS as a firewall? Been considering that, but not until I study for CCNA. That would be some pretty good protection...
B: I'd get one but not until I learn the IOS.
M: *link to config maker*
don't let it stop you, you can learn cli on the go.
:P my only defense is that it was not mentioned as a tool to learn, but to get him started anyway possible instead of letting him get into one of those *I won't get it until I have learned it but I won't be able to learn it till I can get my hands on it* cycle.
