| I have 2 Cisco 2524 routers, both of which have 2- 5-in-1 Serial WAN modules installed. I have all the wires needed. One problem I dont know how to hook it all up. Im just playing with it for a home lab, I am wondering how to hook it up so I will have 2 networks and the routers connecting them.. I am a complete n00B at this,
Any help, or web links would be appreciated!

| Hi MrKill,
If you want to connect the routers together via the serial ports then you will need to configure one side as a DCE by configuring a clockrate on the serial interface, the other side of the connection will then be the DTE and pick up the clockrate.
Eg. to have a 128k link between the routers
int serial 0 (substitute your interface no.)
clockrate 128
Each router should be able to see each other as a CDP neighbour and once you have set the ip addresses you should able to telnet across the serial link.

| Ok thanks!
I have one more problem now.. I wane my network design to be like this:
Internet
|
|
Router #1 -----Serial-------- Router #2
| |
| |
Sybnet #1 Subnet #2
I have the Cisco 2524 routers, but they only have one Ethernet connection each. I cant see how to hook up Router #1 to my incomming Internet, and the LAN?
(hopefully you can see what I mean by the design.. it didnt turn out how I wanted when I submitted the post )

| To put two subnets off you ethernet interface you need a smart switch(configurable vlans) and isl encapsulation(or .1q)) capability on the router(most likely yours does not) I suggest if youv'e got an open expansion slot you buy another ethernet module for one of the routers. |
