| Hi, I am studying for CCNA exam 640-607. I need to clerify some points. Are these topics covered for the exam??
1. Configuring Novell IPX
2. ospf & eigrp
3. NAT(network address translation)
PAT(port address translation)
I got exam topics for 640-607 from cisco website which does not include the above.
Can anybody update me on this??
Thanks. | |

| With the exception of IPX which is slowly fading away the other things you mention are widely used in the real world so regardless if they are on the exam you need to have some knowledge of them for technical interviews.

| However, you don't really need to know a whole lot about any of them. You should probably know that OSPF is a link state protocol and that EIGRP is an "advanced distance vector" protocol, but NAT and PAT aren't important at the CCNA level. | |

| you missed my point. it is easy to pass the ccna with little knowledge then bomb out on your interviews, so I recommend doing more than the bare minimum.

| I would never recommend doing just the bare minimum. However, he asked only about the test, so that's how I answered him. If he had asked about getting a job, I would have advised him differently. The point, therefore, is well taken. | |

| Thanks fellows for the information.
I have decided to revise IPX before going for the exam. Also I have seen lot of questions on subnetting.
The idea is to go well prepared. |
