| CCNA recommended reading eh? Just finnished MCSE 2000 exams so I'm having a break until October for the CCNA course but am already reading the CCNA for Dummies and CCNP 4 in 1 for Dummies and they are excellent.
From a 2000 MCSEs perspective I have seen many CCNA / CCNP books which are VERY hard work. These two Dummies guides are aimed at techies who know about TCP/IP & OSI & networking already and ideal for getting your feet wet.
Hands on experience with Cisco is essential, wont argue with that, but they are perfect for dipping in and out of. You could do much worse.

| Yep, but don't forget, those were targeting the about to be retired exams. If you only use those materials, you will not cover some of the subject the exam will cover.

| Bloody hell! I spent thousands on my NT 4 training to find that If I didnt complete within 5 months then my NT4 exams would be meaning less. Passed wkstaion, Server, Net essentials and TCP/IP, then Feb 2001 happened.
Are cisco playing the same 'I think we can make money out of certification' lark as Microsoft???
I thought 640-607 was the current CCNA qualification and 640-604, 640-605, 640-606 & 640-901 were current for CCNP.
Just recovered from the W2k MCSE certification challenge and really want to certify in the Routing and Switching options. Am I entering another nightmare?

| No, he didn't say your exams would be worthless. What he is saying is the exams constantly evolve adding new technologies and deleting older stuff. By doing this the exams stay pretty much up to date and the question pools keep changing making it harder for the cheaters. The downside for the tech is that new books keep coming out for the revised exam. That ain't no biggee as you can supplement your old book with reading from CCO, get higher level books that already cover the "new" exam material or simply buy the new book when your ready to prep for the exam.
