The instructor I had for the first Cisco semester did say that the second semester would be mostly router configuration. I might try it in the fall.

He's right. I finished all the courses this last semester. The 2nd class is about basic router config, but after the 2nd class it just gets better from there on out.

The best thing about the academy programs is the hands-on experience (I guess it might depend on your academy). Maximize youre time in the lab, as it will really help you master the devices.

Yes, the hands-on was great at my place. After the 1st class I was on the router just about everyday for atleast an hour. There was only 6 of us in the class so it wasn't hard to get a router to play with.

If we are taking the class over the internet(distance learning), but our school has given us access to a virtual rack, is that the same? Did you learn the bulk of your info from your instructors, or from the material in the academy program?

Virtual Rack? Is that like using the flash programs or ... ? I learned a great deal from the teachers and the stuff that the teachers didn't cover the course work from cisco did.

I'm not sure what it is. We telnet in. One the opening page there is a warning that says we are on the router with "x" other users. "DO NOT START A RACK WAR" I guess that means that the commands we use can adversly afect the other users. I don't know if it is a real router, or a prog. set up to emulate one. Don't know enough yet to see. I have picked up a few commands to experiment with from reading this forum though.

Ohh... ok, if you wanted to screw with them. Try this...

Go into global config then type this..

line vty 0 4
login
password cisco
exec-timeout 0 1

They have 1 second of idle time before they booted off the router.
