| Everyone thanks so much for all your input and insight into the test. I couldn't have done it without you all.
I started out the exam just like I said...writing down the OSI model, bit placement, and subnet masks for each borrowed bit during the pre-exam survey. This definitely helped out a lot. I used the Sybex 640-607 Edition 3 book, the transenders, two semesters of the cisco router academy, and one semester of cisco configuring at a local college. I can't really pin-point one source as my main reason for passing, but they all helped nicely. The semester at my local college really helped, because I got a lot of hands on experience.
I ended up getting a 872 on the exam and completed it with 25 minutes to spare. The two sims I had were the most nerve racking part of the exam. If you know how to ping the different interfaces in the diagram then you should be ok. That is really all I used to verify that my configs were set properly. I hated how I had to keep going back and forth between my console screen and network diagram, so a helpful hint might be to write significant interfaces down for pinging purposes.
Overall, I would say the CCNA exam is without a doubt the hardest cert exam I have taken so far. It really makes you know your stuff and isn't really possible to entirely dump your way through a exam like the MCSE exams.
Again thanks for everyone's help!!

| Well Done!!!
That sure is a great way to go into the weekend! And when you see that "Congratulations!" on the screen, it's impossible not to smile!
Are you going to continue down the Cisco path, or is the Associate level enough for you and your job?

| Congratulations..
Thanks for the tip. I am also taking the CCNA academy track and just finished Sem. 2. and still thinking of going into 3rd / 4th semester this fall, or just self study. what do you think?
I have lots of hands on last semester 2 but only configuring a router via RIP v.2. Will there be questions pulled from Sem. 1 like cabling standards, wiring closet standards, tools etc. ?
again congrats... | |

| I think my next step will be to pop in and get my network+ certification really quick, because it looks extremely easy compared to the CCNA and MCSE exams. Then in the fall I will probably start my Masters in telecommunications. I just don't think it is smart to go down the certification road any further, because they don't seem to hold as much value as they use too. I don't doubt that having my masters will be 10times more valuable.
NoyP, if your company will pay for you to take semesters 3 & 4 then I would take it. I chose not to take them, because I moved to a different area. Semester 1 & 2 gave me all the termonolgy I need for the exam, but Sem 3 & 4 might provide you with the extra hands on experience. It all depends on the academy center. I have seen some really crappy academy centers, so do your homework and find out if the center near you is respectable.
Who knows...I may decide sometime to come back to the CCNP courses, but until then...Peace be with you.
