Is this a new router to you, or has this IOS file worked before?

ED Release software is not known for stability, but I'd pop out the 4mb Flash PCMCIA card and boot into ROMMON mode, then reinsert the flash card and TFTP a GD version of 11.1 IOS to the flash.

Thanks I will give that a shot.

have you seen an error like this before?

The router was working fine at the location it was at. The ios has not been changed.
Kind of odd error.

Early Deployment (ED) vs General Deployment (GD).

Just like "release 1.0" for other software, ED versions of IOS haven't necessarily gotten all the kinks out, OR if you're working with TAC on a major problem, the software team might create the fix and provide it to you under the ED label.

Not necessarily a big risk, but since we're in the 12.2 IOS range now, there are plenty of 11.1 GD versions for whatever SW features you need.

But if it happened "all of the sudden" like you indicated, the IOS version may not be a problem, but rather the 4MB Flash might have developed an "opportunity." I'm betting the router was installed and configured right out of the box a couple of years ago and the 11.1 ED IOS is what it came installed with, right?

See, Cisco puts the ED releases on the routers at the factory to perform basic validation testing to make sure the device works. There's no guarantee that the version installed has all the SW features you ordered. In the future, since you pay for GD IOS when you purchase a router, it's always best to install the proper IOS version as part of the configuration and installation process.

To the other question, no I'd never seen it before, nor could I find any reference to it on CCO. If you have a support agreement and can query TAC on that, I'd be really interested to hear what they said.
