| Hi,
I just finished my CCNA training classes for Sem1 and Sem2 this spring. But still have to take Sem3 and Sem4 this Fall.
I now know how to configure a router up to RIP routing, how to subnet, OSI layers and all that was in the Sem1 and Sem2 curriculum of CCNA. And I did good with the chapter exams up to final written and hands-on exams.
My question is, do you think I still need to take this 3hour classes per week? or I can just do my self study for Sem3 and Sem4 . (Sem3 deals with LAN switching, LAN design, VLANS, IGRP, ACLs, Novell IPX)
and Sem4 is about WAN , Wan design, PPP , ISDN, Frame Relay, and Network management). How many percent of this will show up in the exam?
I know there are lots of things that I still need to know here. But can I just learn it through self study without cisco equipment only just router sims from cisco / boson .?
Can you recommend some tools(router sims etc) / books / materials that you've used if you only did a self study to pass ?
And if I will be setting up a lab here at home what will I need (router models, how many routers etc. )
thanks .... | |

| I never participated in any official training and was able to pass the exam.
I used only Todd Lammle's Sybex CCNA study guide, and CCNASim from here: http://www.routersim.com
The exam did have a small handful of questions on it relating to topics that were not covered by the Sybex book at all. I hear Odem's book is a more complete guide. | |

| I was i the same boat as you. I used todd's book and router sim and work experience to pass the exam having only completed sem 1 & 2. So it can be done. I you begin to get think you need help than you should probably sign up for 3&4. HTH and Good Luck. | |

| I am in the same situation as a lot of you guys. I completed the 1st and 2nd semester of the Cisco academy over the course of the year 2001. Then in March of this year I took a 10 week course at a local community college and read the Todd Lammele's sybex book. In my 10 week course I have gotten a tons of hands on experience, but little book knowledge. I am planning on sitting the exam in 1 1/2 weeks, so I'll let you all know how it goes.

| I took Sem.1 and 2 then read every study guide and used Boson tests and this forum which I believe is the best thing for helping each other out and passed CCNA. |
