Author I passed!!!

I passed yesterday with a 923!!!!

This was a VERY difficult exam! Many questions were so confusing that I had to make a lot of educated guesses - and I had studied my butt off for this one. I think knowing how to subnet in my head (no kidding! - learned it from Sybex book) is what allowed me to score so well. There were a lot of questions that were either direct subnetting scenarios, or were story problems that required subnetting skills to figure out what the problem was.

I had two sims. The first one was really easy - just like the ones in Self Test software. But the second one was a brute! It was the 2nd to the last question and I only had 9 minutes for it. I couldn't figure out what they were asking me to do and "sh ip route" confirmed that I was not getting anywhere, so I clicked "next" so I could at least get the points for the last question.

Of course the stress level during the exam never helps! If I had more time, I'm sure I could have figured out the last sim. Oh well, I passed!

Thank you to so many of you who have posted in this forum. I think it's been VERY helpful for me to prepare for this exam.

Your not ready for the exam until you can subnet in your head. Well done on the pass...I got 936 and yep I thought it was a XXXXX of an exam..I think I had three sims, can't remember...

Good job, clarkv!

Sounds like you got the troubleshooting sim, with a few connected routers and you were supposed to be able to ping from the first router to the last one, right?

That one stumped a lot of people, judging by the number of questions/threads about it on EN.

Anyway, congrats, press on, and don't stop learning!!!

See ya on the NP board!

P.S. update your profile - you earned it!

Actually, the first sim was the troubleshooting one with a few routers and an interface or two on one router that needed and IP address and possibly the "no shut" command. That one was pretty easy. The one that stumped me had like 4 or 5 routers and they were all configured correctly except the last one and it needed IP addresses assigned. It was extremely confusing the way the question was requiring me to config those IP addresses and I just couldn't understand and ran out of time.

By the way, I've seen posts that talk about whether or not you can use abbreviated commands (sh run -vs- show running-config)in the sims. You definitely CAN use the shortened commands.

Shortcuts in the sims, I agree. For fill in the blank, haven't heard a straight answer, but it's not worth taking the chance, on any exam!
