Author CCNA (640-607) question....

Hi,

I've been studying since a few days (weeks) now and I got a question regarding the simulation questions that we get now on the real exam, how far does those simulations go ? Simple "set hostname" or "setup igrp" ? Or are there any "solve a problem" questions involved ? The theory of all this shouldn't be a to big problem, I'm just unsure about the practical part of the exam... I never touched a real router, I did do some things that come with Lammle's book e-lab software.

Also, do the next topics still occure or are new for the CCNA exam,

-- IPX
-- VLSM

Any reactions please...

Thx,

-fredo

When I took the exam..It was not troubleshooting...it was all configuration.

There can be some troubleshooting of incorrectly configured addressing, routing statements, or other elements of the configuration that are preventing the simulation from "pinging host C from host A" for example.

I've been spreading this URL all over these threads lately (I found it here, so might as well share it here! ).

This site has excellent simulations for all the main Cisco exams, CCNA, CCNP and most of CCSP, each exam will have 10-15 actual simulations, for each of the objectives of the test.

http://www.chinaitlab.com/www/experiment/lab.asp

If a window pops up to load the Chinese characters, hit cancel - the menu bar and labs are all in English.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess Cisco in it's infinite wisdow is somewhat like Microsoft when it comes to their tests. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GONNA GET!!

from what I've seen on that page, the CCNA simulations are 'simple' setup labs... but I'll check again just to be sure

I've heard of both sims on the new CCNA exam. Please don't read into my response - the troubleshooting is VERY basic, "almost" obvious things, but it is an important part of a CCNA's skill set. That sim is no where near what you'd expect for the CIT exam, so don't sweat it. If you're confident that you can look over a network diagram and know where to find all the IP addresses, routing protocol info, etc, in the router config, AND find which entries are typos, you'll do just fine.

Go through the China IT simulations, or use a free router on the internet (www.r1r2.com is good) to get comfortable with the CLI. There was recently a thread about free simulators or routers to practice configurations.

The Chinalabs thing wasn't bad but not all of it worked for me. It didn's show any of the steps and when I entered for example to telnet a router it just kept coming back with the use telnet command which I was.....oh well. This is quite useful if you don't have a Router Sim....

Can someone confirm if the simulation labs on the real exam require the "full" command to be typed and that the shortcut is not accepted ?

eg.

"sh run" --> wrong
"show running-config" --> correct

Someone ?

Thx,

I am supposed to post the same question fredo, anyway you already posted it here then let it be discussed here. I'll ask that question again so that our co member here will be able to answer our question " Does CISCO exams require to enter the complete command?"

No .....Man.....
The new version of test software can accept upto first three characters.
Enjoy..

Thanks for the info, you don't happen to know if the sim questions contain switch 1900 setup questions ? The Sybex book says it's not part of the CCNA exam...

I started a new thread, but no one reply. Maybe this is a good place for my questions....

******************************
**************Guys, I am taking CCNA this Friday. Ive been studying pretty hard. Doing all those questions from the Sybex book, cram exam and Sybex Virtual Lab.

Sybex Virtual Lab doesn't support lots of function. I am unable to practice Frame Relay, PPP, ISDN and DOD setup. I downloaded RouterSim 3.0 but the program close automatically after I type enable...

My question is how much will they ask about those topics above. I mean I understand it, but without actual command practice. I can't remember the syntex...

Please help! Wish me luck for this Friday.

I'd caution you, though. The sim will accept the shortcuts, but I haven't seen anything about the fill-in-the-blank interactives accepting shortcuts.

There are now some drag-n-drop the words to build the command, or pick the proper command from a list, but there are also still some exams where you type in the command in a text box.

Hey PooPooPlatter,

That chinalabs site is not bad, but I recommend trying www.gettlabs.com. First go to http://www.ipexpert.net/products/it....asp?SKU=ip0100

On that page sign up for the FREE CCNA level access. Then you will have free access to the gettlabs site. You'll have to schedule time for the free labs, but they are well worth it. The Ipexpert site will give you .pdf versions of small lab scenarios that you can use at the gettlabs site.
