| There doesnt seem to be many jobs around for CCNA's, at least in my area: Vancouver BC.
Just wondering if its worth the $, IYHO. I love networking, but it looks like networking has been swarmed with the masses.

| Burger king is hiring I'm sure they can use a few CCNA's to flip some burgers..... No, hmm well the CCNA is a entry level certification anyways so I doubt its the single requirment for any jobs. But its needed to get your CCNP and higher so yes it is worth it. More important then anything though is the knowledge you gain along the way from getting the CCNA. I would get mine if I had some extra cash on me but as of right now my bank account is -$100 so ehhn plus I have this whole airforce thing going on but I'm to fat and owe to much money to my college to join right now. Anyways, yeah its worth it to get your CCNA. | |

It's the same In VA. It's very difficult to find an entry level these days.I've been looking for a job for a year now and no luck.????? so sad.

| The qualification CCNA is not all that employers are after, they require bag loads of experiance as well.
I am coming to the end of my CCNA studies in the UK and looking for a new chalenge, but not a great load here.

| I have 15 years experience in a Specialised IT sector, but wish to move into Networking, it seems that employers are not interested in my 15 years, only if I have networking experience. | |

| oh well, I guess I'll just study it for fun, and work my 10$ per hour job. I might get into mechanics. At least they can get jobs. LOL | |

| Yeah don't expect out of $10 an hour job with Cisco certs. Collect them for yourself. | |

Wouldn't make such a blanket statment about all Cisco certifications. What about CCNP or even more CCIE I doubt someone with relevant experinces and CCIE would be making only $10/hr.

| my exam date is april 30th. I took samester 1 and 2 at BCIT, and have been using router sims and netacad to study. The best part is at work, when we run out of work, i just hit the laptop and go nuts. Sometimes for hours at a time. | |

| great forum, lol I've tryed find a job in computers (much the less networking)with a 924 and enough experience from the high school (ccna)program to pass the a+ with my eyes closed. Ive had more interviews than i care to have nightmares about. and to sum it up its one big pain in the a**(:eek .O yes, I know what your thinking, they do have computers in alabama. that is why i am going to colledge in the mean time (c-progaming is fun to. taking up the ever so demeaing deli job( i guess it could be worse. Icould be stuck at burger king staring at some other ugly poor sap with a ccna. Instead of the cute nieve counter girls.) Besides$6.00 an hour is better than driving a pinto for the time being besides you got to pay for all the gas(thats why I bought a honda) your using to go drive up to the dumb job interview that the guy has already picked out for his little dumb a** nepew that could not tell an rj-45 jack from an a** hole. but none the less I keep on trying , and trying, and trying. thank you for letting me get that off my chest. | |

| If your getting lots of interviews your CV must be doing it's job - how about your interview technique??
I once read a book called "Great answers to tough interview questions" unfortunately I can't find it right now but it was worth reading.
| anchor40 2003-04-21, 9:43 am |
| I read that book too. Mung (and everyone else for that matter), it's worth your time to read so that you can give positive answers to all the rotten questions you get asked.
There's no doubt that the market is tough for networking professionals everywhere. The best way I've heard to spin either the "little real-world hands-on" or the "lots of experience in a similar field" scenarios is to have several examples prepared on how the problems that you've solved in class (or in the other field) directly apply to the position (whether it be ACLs, routing protocols, supporting customers or configuring network management).
The key - all answers must be positive, even your weaknesses!
One last thing - if you're unemployed and you've got some free time on your hands, volunteer at a church or other local charitable organization or contact your city gov't to find out about volunteering your time to gather real experience in the field and highlight that on your resume. Employers will notice the initiative.

| Mung,
You might want to use a spell checker. I am not being an a**, but being on the interviewer side, I noticed too many spelling mistakes in peoples resumes.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT!

| I would never hire somebody just because they are a CCNA. I would like to see some other certs, education, or experience.
CCNA is only an entry level cert. But for an entry level job, it would be a big plus on the ol application. |
