Thanksk again to all for your support and to those who have sat exam yet Know your stuff this exam is no joke and that is what makes it worth it. it is nice to take a cert test that is not a head game and is just straight knowledge.

congrats, well done
MCSE track is a good one, unless we know more about OS, we cannot survive, atleast guys who are not in service providers!
all the best for MCSE

congratulations on passin your CCNA! I took the test today *for the first time), and only score in the mid-50's!

Obviously, I wasn't prepared. <G> But the questions WERE harder than I expected from the Lamale book.

Also, the simulations caught me by suprise. I think I took way too long on them, and ended up not even answering the last 10 questions! (hard to pass when you don't answer 16% of the questions!

BTW, are there any IPX questions on the test? I've heard conflicting answers... I don't remember any, but...

You know I don't remember any but 60 questions is a lot. Look on cisco site for the cert outline and see if requires on there.

good luck

CONGRATS LARKSPUR!!

You must be good!! Passing your CCNA test in your 3rd Semester is quite an achievement!!

Go Larkspur! Go Larkspur!

So Cisco popped you with the revised 60 question test too, Huh?!? I must say that the simulation questions were asking for quite a bit in a short amount of time (1.5 minutes per question).

treea1,
It was a tough one I will say. Now I am trying to figure out what to do next.
Alot of things are looking good to study.

Thanks

Larkspur,

With your current MCP and CCNA, you could always continue with the MCSA/MCSE track for OS (users, groups, trusts, etc.) and network config & management or you could go CCNP for hardware config & network management. It really is your preference. OS or Hardware?? That's really what it boils down to. Either way, you still have good choices.

Which track do you think is cheaper, overall, (classes, books, CD's, tests) MCSA or CCNP?

well through work I have access to smartforce, which has anything and everything, it seems. It is hard to decide, with the technology changing to need less SA's or SE's ,but NE's seems to be pentiful and have the most longevity (i think i spelled that right). IT still remains in the top five of hottest markets even though jobs are hard to come by. I gues i will flip a coin and go from there. What about yourself what direction are you headed? Any IT field look good to you?

Well Larkspur...

I am very much interested in the Cisco track. At the place where I am an intern, there are internal employees proprietary to the company, then there are the contract employees. The majority of the contractors are from Cisco because the majority of the routers, switches and probes are Cisco products.

The attitude of the internals is "We will do everything to fix it". However if they can't, they summons the Cisco contractors. The attitude with the internal employees toward Cisco contractors is "Cisco will fix it and Cisco will fix it quickly and thoroghly. All hail Cisco". There is definitely a presence and a power in this corporation (and this is a major, global corporation) made by any/all Cisco staff. The assumption is... You must be the best if you are Cisco. Cisco is quality, and I believe thier assumption is correct.

With that said, I am following the Cisco track most likely with a concentration in security. Next is CCNP, CCSP, then most likely a Cisco specialist cert (Firewalls or VPN or maybe both), and a degree (which nowadays is a must)!!!

However with so many screw-ups and vunerabilties from Microsoft, an MCSA/MCSE might prove lucrative in the long run!!

I believe the reason that jobs are so few and far between with Cisco is that Cisco (amoung a few others) builds strong, reliable products, the margin for error is pretty low and thier technologies are competitive.

But keep in mind, there is a tremendous number of job opportunities where MCSE and Cisco certs are required - and the market let's the employers be choosey!

I agree with you, and this seems to be very true. However, choosing a specific vendor to claim your niche in is a personal choice of the individual and thier likes/dislikes, ease of/lack of understanding and learning, and moreover the respect levels the individual may have of the vendor.

In making that choice, choosing a specific vendor can pay off in the long run, particularly if you choose a strong, robust, sustainable vendor that withstands during tough times. But I must agree, it is always good to have more than one flavor in the cookie jar, particularly in these times.

Keep this in mind also: I have noticed that there are quite a few MCSA's and MCSE's that don't have any other vendor certs (Cisco or otherwise) and are still being hired on the strength of thier Microsoft certs! Quite a few of them are at my job. Once again I think it all comes down to OS/Network admin or Hardware/Network admin.

Now Anchor40, I see that you have a couple of good Cisco certs and your pursuits are within the Cisco vendor area. Any particular reason for you?
