Author Certification success!

I took the 640-607 test yesterday, and passed with a score of 925. Luckily for me most of the OSI, routing and WAN questions I received were quite routine... couple of rather hard scenarios though, as well as some really tedious router configuration sims. (Probably bombed it anyway, due to missing out the last step of copy running startup!)

Spent a good three months preparing for the exam... the certification guide from Cisco Press proved invaluable. Read the book cover to cover, paying special attention to the router configuration examples and subnetting questions. Loaning RouterSim from my uncle helped out quite a bit too, since I have very limited access to real Cisco routers. Supplemented the whole thing with the ICND book from my local library.

Registering for the test was unexpectedly tedious. I simply couldn't get VUE's registration process to work, so I switched over to Prometric. I still had to screw around with the server script to get a Singaporean test center though (for some reason Singapore was not present in the list of selectable countries).

Now that's over and done with, I've got my sights set on CompTIA and Microsoft certifications...

Thanks for your comments guys...

lingaraj_r: The simulations aren't actually hard, just tedious. Both the simulations I got involved setting RIP routing and enabling RIP for connected networks. There was also ip address configuration, as well as clock rate for serial connections.
The ICND filled me in regarding details that weren't explored exhaustively in the certification guide... especially regarding physical layer technology and data/network layer protocols.

Sheed: The CCNA certification isn't exclusive to Cisco jobs... employers in the general IT field favour applicants who have the *relevent* certification, CCNA among them.
