| I know its Dumb, but I am new to this, dont laugh.
WHAT IS A ROUTER?
I really dont understand the purpose of it too much, I know the Theory (routes packets, etc etc)... Give me some real life situations of how a router is used.
I know some of you guys are ccna, so if someone ask you what is that cert and what it says about you, how will you explain it? Explain it like I am a 5 year old kid, ok...lol
thanks guys. | |

| UMMM, GUESS NO ONE WANTS TO ANSWER MY STUPID QUESTION. | |
|
| Learn the layers.
A layer three device.
Uses routing and routed protocals. (IP, RIP -respectively)
BREAKS UP BROADCAST DOMAINS.
Used to set ACL's
Uses logical addressing (software based).
|
| Sorry, correction...
IP is a routed protocal
RIP is a routing protocal

| 1 Open internet explorer,
2 type www.google.com in the address bar
3 type in quotes 'what is a router' in the search form
You'll never learn anything about computers/networking if you can't find anything for yourself. Even if you have the intelligence of a 5 year old.
If your a troll looking for fun I suggest you come up with more creative posts.

| I think that some of the techies thought you were being lazy.
For almost all questions and or research you can always open a google search and within one or two hits find what you need. I've got alot of free Cisco/Router links on this page at my website here:

| A router look at the IP address to find out where it should send the next packet it received (a router has multiple ports).
Without routers, every packet would be transmitted everywhere and Internet would be so slow that it would be impossible to use it.
I hope this is simple enough
