| i have just purchased a 1600 series router and a 2501 router for lab practice.. i need to be able to connect both of the routers via serial int back to back. what kind of cable can i use & how can i make the cable ... what are the pinouts? readymade cables are not readily avbl here in India where i live
thanks | |

| Personally I wouldn't make up the cable's, have a look at the modules to see what plugs you need, then go somewhere like www.anthonypanda.com - he delivers worldwide and is very quick.
Pinouts are available on CCO, just search for them - but I would be wary of shorting something out.

| making a 60 pin serial cable, yikes. At the very most, make your self a crossover cable and do it that way via ethernet, or buy one from AP as suggested before, he also sells on ebay for a couple bucks less, he may ship from Japan or China, but he is reliable and fasty | |

| i have spent a small fortune getting the routers and now i am totally broke... besides it doesnt make sense to me that i pay $100 as shipping to india for a product that costs less than $30. i have no problem buying the cable as long as the cost is reasonable. I have the connetcors already that is why i wanted to know the pinouts.. i hope you all can help!
Thanks | |

| I did also suggest a search on CCO - have you done this, I know the pinouts are there.
If you search and can't find it let us know.

| i have looked extensively on all over the net.. but i have not been able to find exactly what i need. i have found pinouts for DB60->DB25...and a whole lot more... but i understand that what i need is a DB60->DB60 DTE/DCE crossover cable..please correct me if im wrong.. | |

| Sorry - my head is fried at the moment! The only pinouts I can find are for console and this isn't what your after.
You may need to make 2 cables - using the pinouts provided on the link you found, one DB60 to DB25 DCE and one DTE, ensuring that you use one male and one female for the DB25.

I personally would be VERY cautious about doing this, your routers cost a lot more than what buying a cable would.
