I want to make sure..... I have heard that the command to make the router erase the current version of the configuration has changed from write erase to something else?
is this true?

erase nvram.
Are you asking to erase the ios completely?

The flash memory holds the IOS the VRAM stores the startup-config file

I'm running 12.2 on a 2504 and the write erase works to remove the startup-config file, you could type erase startup-config which does exactly the same thing.

Hi all,
The latest versions of IOS include new commands like
erase nvram
erase startup-config

But the older version of these commands is write erase. This command will work with the newer versions of IOS too.
