| 1. have you verified that cables are good. I spent three days trying to configure routers that had bad serial cables...it happens.
2. check the computers.... it is pretty easy to get the wrong tab when you are configuring the TCP/IP info.... be real sure that you sellected the icon that looks like a pig tail....not the nic card. and that you have the gateway defined for the router interface it connects to.
3. The comand "no shutdown" must be entered on each interface as you identify it on the router... the default is to be shutdown...so unless the administrator tells it to go to work it will not pass data until it is given the command.
4. finally... when all else fails.... go to the beginning and work back through all steps sequentially...from the physical all the way through the logical. verify each step as you go. take nothing for granted especially ip addresses... one digit wrong is as bad as an entire address miswritten.
I've attached a notepad file we use to setup the one lab in a standard 5 router LAB setup. Use it to see if it looks similar to the configuration commands you are entering. |
