Here's the scoop. Been out of work for about three weeks, am interested in persuing this certification, not for job opportunties but for myself. I only want to do ccna, and more for the knowledge relating to configuring the switches, not so much routing interest. I figure if I am reading to learn it, I may as well really focus to learn and focus towards writing the exam as well. It helps give me the motivitation and makes it easier to remember if I know I HAVE to for a reason.

needless to say I am short on coin and do not want to spend any more then necessary. I do already have the ciso press 640-607 and havent cracked it open yet(had it for about three months) with a previous interest but never got around to it.

My previous job we had 2900x switches, 3600 routers. I really did anything I needed to through the browser interface though, I would like to learn more in depth. My only interest is in the ccna and not persuing any more because thats not what I do. I do server administration more then anything else, and heavy switching and routing dosent float my boat at this time.

I hear some people praising this book as the bible and others say its information overload. By using this title, and available web resources will it be enough to pass this exam? I realize there is sims on the exam, but I also understand there is simulations on the internet available for use for the basics.

I was considering the Sybex CCNA Certification Kit, which is the CCNA 3rd edition and the Virtual Lab gold edition, but for 200 bucks canadian, im not sure how valuable its going to be. And if i do spend the money for sims then i may as well spend an extra 60 and by the sybex ccna study guide as well. I really cant afford to spend anymore then absolutly necessary. i wanted the sims for the hands on, but Im wondering if I could get by without, and by using whats available on the internet.

Your advice and suggestions are appreciated.

ps. do these lab sims allow you the full ios use, or just select funcionality?

if u are refering to the wendell odom book, dont waste time writing such short stories, open the book and start reading.
study the book three times, practise the exam on the CD, and just write the exam.
