Author Failed 640-607

I failed the 640-607 test on my first attempt. I received a score of 812.
I was confused with the simulation because it appeared that all of requests were already done. i.e. hostname, ip addresses on the interfaces, secret passwords etc....
Any advice would be appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by already done?

So you thought they were completed for you?
Or did you think you had completed them and moved on?

When you get to the simulation remember one thing.

The ONE WAY to make sure that the network is up and running properly is to ping from a device on each segment to hosts on all the other segments.

If you do this, and even ONE does not ping- then you have a problem and have to fix it. Do not submit the answer until everything pings everything else.

Ping ping ping!

If you had done this, you would have had at least one bad ping and would have seen that there was one router that had a problem.

great advice ANDRONDA! I will remember that when I take my test.

but he said he missed one that you had to set a password on ... not sure that would help there maybe you have to do a copy run start before you logout?

You do have to copy-run-start.

I forgot to mention that. You also have to do a show startup-config.

If you do not see those entries for the passwords down there then they did not take for some reason and you must go back and try again.

Also, you should try to telnet across and see if it prompts you for a password.

So in addition to

ping ping ping.

Test test test.

Then submit.

They will never give you a solved puzzle then try to see if you can tell that it is not broken. It IS broken so you must fix it.

I also failed when it came to the sims. I was not sure as to how far they wanted me to go with the commands. I was not sure if I should just type what the questions was asking and then SUBMIT or treat it as if it were a live Router.
In one particular simulator the network was set up and the question stated that RouterA cannot communicate with RouterC. Then it lists how far the routers have been configured. This was very time consuming as I had to issue a SHOW START command on each Router to see what was missing.

I'll try it again in a week.

Of course you have to treat the sim as a live router. Too many people rush this part and yet it is the most important part of the exam, stuff the sims and you'll stuff the whole exam regardless of a run of 100% on all other components. Network Management and OSI etc. I think I had to set a hostname and a telnet and console password on mine. Also do not abbreviate commands, type the complete line, play it safe. Do not put things like sh run config just do the complete line show running configuration etc. I thought the sims were easy for my exam and perhaps I was lucky, if there was a problem I recall it was easy to fix. I scored 936 with 100% on the sim section. Good luck.
