It depends on what you want to do with your switch.

If you want to be able to manage it over the network in any way, you'll need to give it an address.

I mean when the host(pc)on a network1, which directly connected to the switch1, and that host wants to connect or send out a packets to another host on network2, so do we need to configure the ip address for the switch1 in network1 and the same thing in switch2 in network2 to reach the other host?
thanks keep in touch plz

Well, for example, given host1, 192.168.1.1/24 connected to switch1, and host2, 10.10.10.1/24 connected to switch2, host1 and host2 won’t be able to communicate (IP) by default.

If you assign addresses (say 192.168.1.2/24 and 10.10.10.2/24) to switch1 and switch2, then host1 and host2 can communicate if there is a router in the loop or if at least one of the switches is layer3 capable.

To answer the original question, the only reason that a switch is given an IP address is purely for administration.

The IP address given to the switch has nothing to do with the actual routing or switching in the network.

You don't need it. You could add one for management.
