I flunked my CCNA (607 at the time) with an 809. I wonder if it had to do with my Lab simulation. Please help. The simulation for both labs want me to finish configuring a router with a rip protocol. It clearly states that the router is almost configured except for the protocol. So, I did an "enable" "conf t" and "router rip" and announced the networks "network (network address)" for each interface and then did an exit control Z and "copy run start"
But a friend who has the cheat sheet of testking swears that I should include the hostname, ip addresses of the interfaces, and the no shutdown commands for the entire answer. But I still read the lab as clearly stating the router is configured except the protocol and that is all I configured. I had two labs like this where I did not configure the whole router but just what i was told to configure in the question. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? If this is why I flunked I want to know becuase I will be taking the 801 exam and I dont want to agonize on how I configure this lab. Thank you.

agonize ? Oh don't you and your friend 'agonize, the 801 is completely different and cheating will get you NOWHERE. Why worry?

ok even if they tell u the routers were configured did u check the configurations? i did and found that some were not configured. so i assigned IP address and all. never forget that No Shutdown command. and most important of all NEVER FORGET TO PING AND TEST CONNECTIVITY. if it Pings ok then ur well n good. but if there is ..... instead of !!!!! then u missed something. wish u all the best. simulations r very important so be serious about it and don't hurry trust me u have plenty of time.

Hey Scooter, I didnt say I was cheating, I just was stating that I think the question is wrong it making me assume that the router is almost configured except for the routing protocol. And I did not say I was using testking, just that someone who did tipped me off as to why the question might have been flawed. Please read my post before assuming that I was cheating. Besides it is Cisco that was cheating me out of 125 bucks by not being clear in this question.

In the Cisco simulations, some commands like show running-config and ping are available. Cisco expects you to use these commands to check on what has and has not been configured, as well as what may have been configured improperly. To be on the safe side, enter the entire configuration using the information provided. The suggestion by amrx to check connectivity after you have completed all router configurations is an excellent one. Cisco may not tell you certain things, like to enter the clock rate on a serial to serial connection, but expects you to do so just the same. Some of the questions are deliberately vague, and are designed to test your overall knowledge of the subject matter. This may seem unfair, but possibly Cisco is try to prepare you for the real world. If you hired a consultant to make changes to your router configurations, wouldn't you want them to check to make sure the changes worked before they walked out the door?

Not assuming a thing, and yes you are using test-king.

Whether you actually are using testking or simply have someone tell you about what it says is the same result... cheating. Let's not mince words.

this sim that Cisco give you was supposed to wanna know if you can do the trouble-shooting. that requires you not only config the ip add/rip/access-list, but also you should know how to use commands of trouble-shooting such as "show run"/"ping",etc.
you should use "show run"or other comands to find out the problem first.
then type in config. you don't have to do the complete config. it's OK just to config the RIP & the missing network.
next you should use "PING" to check the connectivity. if not, you can "copy start run" to redo the lab again.
finally "copy run startup" if every thing is OK.

hey Scoot and Yank, Buzz off guys, I was not using Testking. And what the heck do I care if you believe me. And yes, I like you, would be interested to see why I got something right or wrong and when the friend offered I certainly accepted. I spent money too on these exams and I followed instructions correctly and now I feel ripped off. I certainly knew how to configure the router, but I do admit that I should of did a show run config to do some checking instead of trusting the examiners to give me the correct instructions. SO stop trying to show how high and mighty you are by accusing me and just stay away from my post if you are suspect. And thank you for those who offered Intelligent help for my problem.

at face value. Simulations are modeled after the field. Users never give all the info you need and usually give the wrong info. It's up to you to use any resources available to find out what the real situation is.

Not that i haven't seen bad questions on a cisco exam, but at least you'll be better prepared the second time around(and for any other cisco tests you might do).

I'll be happy to stay away from all three of your posts and any future ones you may make.
