Author Are the 607 books good enough to pass the 801?

Does anyone know if the most recent books by Cisco Press and Sybex that are for the 640-607 will help just the same for the 801? I had no idea that Cisco was going to retire the 607, and I bought the two most popular 607 books. I'm just wondering if it was a waste of money, or if I can still pass the 801 with them two books.

The older books will give you quite a bit of what you need to know, but not everything. According to Cisco, the major differences are the OSPF and EIGRP routing protocols as well as VLSM, something that the old exam didn't cover. The Sybex book for 640-607 doesn't cover these. You don't mention what Cisco title you bought, but the ICND book by Steve McQuerry doesn't cover these either. Cisco has out a two book set for 640-801, and Sybex probably has a new book out as well. Might not be a bad investment.

no you didn't waste your money. all those book are good for 801 also. but there are some added items in 801 which you won't find in those books. look for them on Internet. if you have money then you can buy the latest books but i don't think its necessary. the added items can be found from Cisco's website. just search for those topics on Net and i'm sure you'll find good papers from which you can study.
