subnet question from lammle confusing??
|
|
|
| Sybex CCNA deluxe edition....
In the subnet review section there is a question which asks..
what is the broadcast address of the subnet 172.16.8.159, 255.255.255.192
the answer is 172.16.8.191
but in the answers he states..
The two subnets provided by this Class B mask are 64 and 128. The broadcast address for the 128 subnet is 191.
Which is correct...
but isn't 192 in the 4th octet a valid subnet as well, AS long as all the subnet bits in the 3rd octet are not on??
And 0 in the 4th octet is a valid subnet AS long as the subnet bits in the 3rd octet aren't off!?
Hopefully this is correct if I am taught right
thanks,
cheers,

| You’re correct.
The author of the question went wrong when he said “The two subnets provided by this Class B mask…” This mask provides 1022 subnets in a class B network.
Even experts can make mistakes. |
