Some reference said that a bridge can operate between different layer 2 protocols.
Does that implies that a bridge can connect heterogeneous system (e.g. Ethernet and Token ring) together?

yes,
you need a router with ethernet an tkr ports on each side and
an eth and tkr switch on each side.

However, I am still not quite clear as to whether a bridge alone can interconnect heterogeneous systems together? i.e. In the configuration shown below:

Ethernet -- Bridge -- Token Ring.

[The bridge extract the information contain in an Ehter_II frame then re-encapsulate these info. in an Token_Ring frame]

If the statement "a bridge can operate between different layer 2 protocols" is correct, are there any bridge product out there in the market that can work in this configuration

not under the cisco solution.
the way it is accomplished
the router is configured for bridging.
the are several ways to do this one is called irb "integrated routing and bridging"
