A rumor has it that if you get 2-3 sims questions on the exam and got wrong on all of the sims questions you pretty much failed the test. Is this true?

In all likeliness, you'll have a very high probability in failing the exam if you totally flunk the sims. Even if you got all other questions on the exam right I don't think there would be a good chance. Cisco weighs the sims more than the multiple choice questions I believe.

You need to know how to work with cisco equipment. not just memorize the facts.

So basically, I need to get all the sims questions correct to pass the exam?

Essentially if you are able to fix the problem that they ask you to do on the simulations, then you should be good to go. The sims don't necessarily ask you a question but try you to either configure something (like an interface w/ ip address for example....with subnetting involved of course or try to get you to fix a problem that several connected networks may have.

Scoring of Simulation Exam Questions

Question
How will simulation items be scored as opposed to multiple choice response items?

Answer
Exam simulation questions carry greater weight than typical multiple-choice or fill-in-the-blank test questions in calculating a candidates' final exam score. At the end of the exam the overall score will be calculated and the candidate will be provided with a score report pinpointing areas of strength and weakness.

Exam scores are based on a point scaling system that is widely used in the industry. Your score can fall within a point scale of 300 to 1000 points. You are automatically awarded 300 points for beginning the test and can score up to 1000 points if you answer every question correctly on the exam. Please note that the specific number of points awarded to a given question varies on each exam.

Cheers~
