what equipment would make a perfect ccna (640-801) home lab, and would not become obsolete towards later studying for ccnp.

Im looking for just the bare minumum.

I know for the old 607 test, most pepl suggested one or two 2501s and one 1912 switch.

For the new exam, Ill heard it would be perfect to get a couple 16xx and a 2950 switch.

What is everyones opinions about this? Im on a tight budget and already got a 2514 and a 1912. What other equpment should i add?

Yes, a 2950 sounds good - however it might be a bit expensive. I think overall it is just an IOS based switch that you would need to be familar with, as the 1900 is end of life. If this is the case then a 2900xl would also be good and you should be able to get one of these cheaper.

What interfaces does a 2514 have? I can't remember, should be good enough for a CCNA lab.

2514
= 16 flash, 16 memory, IOS 12.2.
= 2 serials, 2 ethernet

I used to run it as a nat server for my cable connection.
