Which two of the following are true of subnetting a Class C network?

A. Maximum subnet bits will be 6.
B. Each subnet will have a maximum of 254 hosts.
C. Maximum number of 62 subnets.
D. Each subnet will have a maximum of 58 hosts.

Answer: A, C

Ok where is the 62 subnets coming from?

Class C should be millions of subnets right?

shouldn't someone pay us for proof reading?

I suggest that you read the 3com paper on ip addressing, you stated you are taking the test in a few days...

if you honestly think class c has millions subnets, reschedule...

and dump all these questions/answers study path... learn the technology.

read that document once, twice, 3 times if needed.

Class C - 255.255.255.0 or /24

Default 1 subnet / 254 hosts

Borrow 6 bits for subnets - 255.255.255.252
or /30

2 to the power of 6 = 64

64 - 2 = 62

A single class C address won't have more than 1 subnet with 254 hosts or 254 subnets with 1 host. You only have 254 to work with. You can combine Class C addresses to gain more subnets/addresses. This is known as supernetting or address aggregation, but that is a topic you won't encounter on the CCNA exam. Try writing out the possible scenarios for class C and maybe that will help.

The answer is 2**n-2, where n is the number of bits available for subnetting, in this case 6.

Mikop is right. If you can't figure this out, don't waste your time or money taking the exam. Stay home and read up on how this stuff works.

Right sorry guys.. I figured that out shortly after my post.. My brain is mush right now and I was just confused for a second there!

Also I meant to say millions of networks and not subnets!

Justin

Make sure you get a good nights sleep before your exam. Mushbrain can be fatal on those exams.
