Hello,

Long time reader, first time poster....

I just had a general question regarding the CCNA exam that I'm preparing for. How much should I emphasis learning the actual IOS commands? I have a very good understanding of general networking due to working in the field for the past few years but my experience in actually configuring routing tables and the like is somewhat limited to my Level 2 status on my networking team.

My boss is requiring us to become CCNA certified, and I managed to pass the network+ test with relative ease and was wondering how much of it is similar? I'm worried that my fairly good general networking knowledge will be overshadowed by my newbie-level knowledge of specific IOS commands.

Any help/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Good question, that's what's stopping me from CCNA. I have a nice network knowledge however no nothing about Cisco IOS or subnetting.

I think we should just go for it, coz its just wastage of time , preparing over and over again. What eva happenes ...happenes. Its not like U cant resit it if it comes to that.
But if U are that unfortunate, U will be in a better situation..coz then U would know the type being questioned can can prepare better.

well aside from the two sims and other questions that are on the commands, I saw it would be well worth your time to get some hands on with it even if its just on the sim.

If you have a sound networking knowledge then grab a simulator or check out r1r2.com or something similiar and practice the commands. if you use the Sybex sim and can go through all there labs with no problem your ready for the CCNA. Don't let the sims on the test deter you from taking the exam. They ask you to perform basic functions on the router (i.e. Assign an IP address to an interface, rename the router, turn on RIP...)

Im just worried about Frame Relay and ISDN bit. Cos that can get a little messed up if u havent practiced it.. and well I cant really practice that .. dont hav a router..
sims are limited.

I will check out rir2.com..
thanks
