Author int s0 - Invalid Command?

Hello,

I'm trying to do some basic IP Routing exercies from the Sybex CCNA book (Chapter 5, Page 261) on my Boson Router Sim 4.15 and I'm having some problems.

I am performing the following commands

en
config t
hostname 2501A
int e0
ip address 172.16.10.2 255.255.255.0
no shut
int s0
ip address 172.16.20.1 255.255.255.0
no shut

On the "int s0" line I am receiving errors of "Invalid command". When typing "int serial ?", I receive:
<0-2> Serial Interface Number

So I'm assuming that its telling me I need to input a serial number of 0-2 after "int serial"... when trying to do that I receive the "Invalid Command" error.

What am I doing wrong????

The beauty of sims.

It's probably after int s0/0 or similar.

Do a show interface (assuming the sim will allow it) and look for the relevant line, something like this would be int s0/0:

R7-Middle#sh in
Serial0/0 is up, line protocol is up
Hardware is PowerQUICC Serial
Internet address is 172.16.1.146/28

etc

It lists my e0 interface but not my s0 interface. I think its not listing that s0 interface because when I tried configuring it, it gave me that invalid command error.

"Show int" should show if the s0 interface is up or down assuming there is an s0 interface.

Run show int and copy/paste everything that comes up.

Its not even allowing me to configure Serial 0 Interface...... look.....

That is what I am starting to think. What does the network diagram show for that router?

I figured it out! I ran a "show ip int brief" command to confirm that there was a Serial0 and Serial1... and then typed "int serial0" as the command. I previously tried a variety of commands such as:
int s0
int s 0
int serial 0
int serial 0/0

I didnt think of removing the space and typing the whole word. I guess thats just a minor issue with the Boson software.

Thanks for all of your help!!!

It was only a matter of time.

Sims vary in commands you can type in but most router sims have a list of supported commands you can access.
